CPHS looking for photogenic pets

February 22, 2011
The Altoona Mirror

The Central Pennsylvania Humane Society announced the start of its annual Picture Perfect Pet 2012 Calendar Contest. The contest features professional portraits of locally owned pets. The contest includes fundraising on behalf of the participants to have their pets featured in the calendar. Any pet owner is welcome to enter. To participate, pet owners are encouraged to pick up information sheets at the Central PA Humane Society and Fresh Bark Thrift Shop, 1836 and 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.

The contact information will direct the entrants to designated professional photographers who will photograph the participant's pet in their studio. For $10, participants will receive two photos. The photos can then be used for fundraising-raising money in support of their pet.

Thirteen pet owners who raise the most money will have their pet's photo featured on a month of the calendar. Other entrants who raise the next highest amount will be featured on the honorable mention page. Every participant who raises $30 or more will have his/her pet pictures in the Picture Perfect Pet 2012 calendar.

Nicole Bopp, marketing director of the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, poses with Sable, one of the many shelter pets who benefit from this fundraiser, to announce the start of the CPHS?Picture Perfect Pet 2012 Calendar Contest.

Participants through the years have been very creative in raising money in support of their pet. The money raised from this contest is used to help the more than 5,000 homeless animals that come through the shelter doors each year.

Photo sessions for the contest will begin Friday and end June 25. "We are excited to see the works of our returning photographers Tammy Wolfe of London Photography, Moments Photography, Joe Padula of Stages Photography, Erro Gutshall of Dance of Light Photography, The Film Center and Studio-36 Photography," said Nicole Bopp, CPHS marketing director. The calendar also showcases local business supporters. "I want to thank these professionals personally for their time and effort to support our organization," said Bopp.

The calendar offers a Rainbow Bridge section in memory of our beloved pets. "We express an invitation to submit a photograph for this page with a donation of $20," said Bopp.

The calendars will go on sale in September. To sign up your pet or for more information about the contest, call Bopp at 942-2477.
