Juniata groups join forces

HUNTINGDON - Exploration of all kinds is the informal theme when Juniata College's Wind Symphony and Concert Band join forces in a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts on the Juniata campus.

Both groups are conducted by James Latten, associate professor of music and director of Juniata's instrumental music program.

The concert is $5 for adults and free for students and children under age 18.

St. Francis hosts concert

LORETTO - Pop punk band Motion City Soundtrack will perform a concert at St. Francis University on April 15 in the Stokes Athletic Center. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert will begin at 8 p.m.

A Great Big Pile of Leaves will be the opening act.

The concert is open to the public. Tickets are $20 and are available for purchase online at www.ticketweb.com (with additional fees).

Percussion concert set

HUNTINGDON - Syncopation on everything from drums, to marimbas to PVC pipes will be featured in a concert combining Juniata College's Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. April 15 in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts.

The concert is free and open to the public. The Percussion Ensemble is directed by James Latten, associate professor of music.

Country duo to play State

STATE COLLEGE - Up and coming country duo Steel Magnolia will perform at 8 p.m. May 5 at The State Theatre.

Josh Scott Jones and Meghan Linsey first appeared on the country music circuit during CMT's "Can You Duet?" singing competition, where they took first place.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at www.thestatetheatre.org, by calling 272-0606 or in person at the box office.

Sullivan gifts go on display

LORETTO - The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Loretto has announced the opening of its latest exhibition, "The Sullivan Family: Legacy Exhibition." Featuring nearly 200 works, the exhibition opens April 15 and will remain on view through July 23.

"The Sullivan Family: Legacy Exhibition" brings the gifts of the Frank and Margaret Sullivan Fund and the individual gifts of family member together for the first time.

SAMA-Loretto is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Big Band opens show

The Big Band Sound, Inc. will present its annual free spring concert on the newly remodeled auditorium stage at the Mount Union Area High School at 7:30 p.m. April 19.

Over the years The Big Band Sound, Inc. has consistently brought the music of the original big bands of the swing era and the sounds from later decades, played in a big band style, to the local and surrounding areas. The group contains more than 15 members.

Rock, Crow teaming up

BURGETTSTOWN - Kid Rock will bring the second leg of his "Born Free" tour, featuring Sheryl Crow, to the First Niagara Pavilion at 7 p.m. July 6.

Tickets are $25.50 for lawn seats, $35.50, $45.50 and $75.50 for pavilion seats and $250.50 for the limited number of VIP tickets. There is a McDonalds Lawn 6-pack available with six tickets for $99.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday and will be available at all Ticketmaster locations, livenation.com or charge by phone at 800-745-3000.

Big & Rich headline show

PITTSBURGH - The Xtreme Muzik Festival, starring country music superstars Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson, with opening acts Cowboy Troy and 2 Foot Fred, will open at 7 p.m. July 22 at the Trib Total Media Amhpitheatre.

More performers will be announced at a later date.

Reserved tickets range in price from $39 to $49 with a very limited amount of gold circle tickets for $75. Ticket prices increase by $5 on the day of the show and will be go on sale at noon Saturday at all Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com and charge-by-phone by calling 800-745-3000.
