Spring gobbler tournament
The "Top Tom" Spring Gobbler Tournament will be held in the coming weeks In Pennsylvania.
A youth hunt is scheduled for April 23, and an adult hunt runs from April 30-May 31.
The youth hunt entry fee is $5, and the adult fee is $20. Part of the adult registration fee includes a $5 raffle ticket in which prizes can be won through the Pa. Daily Number.
Scoring requires a complete carcass with a completed tag. Beard is measured with the longest single strand being recorded to the next lesser 1/8 inch. Spurs are measured from back of leg to spur tip from spur's underside to the next lesser 1/8 inch. Scoring is to be determined using a formula of beard length and spur length.
Gobblers must be reported within 24 hours of harvest. One gobbler per registered hunter will be eligible for prizes. Hunters may register only once.
All of the money from the entrance fees will be awarded to the top three gobblers, and three places will be awarded for every 50 entrants. Successful hunters will be eligible for a $1,000 grand prize drawing awarded at 8 p.m. May 31 at the New Florence VFW.
