Area singer wins award
LEMARS, IOWA - The Rural Roots Music Commission, which honors "rural country music," has selected Sandy Uttley of Huntingdon to receive its Best Legacy CD of the Year Award for her album "Sings Patsy Cline."
The group, sanctioned by the National Traditional Country Music Association, will present Uttley with the award at the NTCMA Festival on Aug. 29 in LeMars.
According to Uttley in a press release for the award, she recorded the album with former Cline associate Jim McCoy in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and got support from Cline's widower Charlie Dick and her daughter, Julie, during the recording.
In the release, NTCMA president Bob Everhart said: "Ms. Uttley has recorded one of the best Patsy Cline CDs the reviewers have heard in a very long time."
