'Flora, Fauna' exhibit opens

BEDFORD - The Bedford County Arts Center gallery will present its 17th annual "Flora and Fauna Exhibit" through July 30. The gallery, in Anderson House, 137 E. Pitt St., will be filled through July 30 with multimedia images of flowers and critters in varying quantities.

During the July 9 and 10 weekend, the exhibit will be brought to life by the horticultural artists of the Bedford County Garden Club.

The public is invited to meet the artists at a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. July 10.

The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

'70s legends to perform

GREENSBURG - The early 1970s hitmakers Three Dog Night will perform at 8 p.m. July 16 at The Palace Theatre.

During a five-year period from 1969 to 1974, the pop rockers hit No. 1 three times, with "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)," "Joy to The World" and "Black And White" and had multiple other hits with songs like "Shambala," "An Old Fashioned Love Song" and "One."

National acts play Altoona

Local promoters anemergencyscene will present a show headlined by Fueled By Ramen artist The Swellers at 5 p.m. July 28 at the Altoona Masonic Hall, 600 Jackson Ave., Altoona. The show will also feature Side One Dummy Records artist Fake Problems and Run for Cover Records artist Daytrader, as well as local bands Light Hearted and On the Run.

The Swellers have toured with bands like Paramore, Bayside, Less Than Jake and Anti-Flag and released their second album on Fueled By Ramen, "Good For Me," on June 14.

Tickets for the show are $10 and are available at the door.

Rockers set to play Palace

GREENSBURG - The '80s and '90s rock group Queensryche will perform as part of their 30th anniversary tour at 8 p.m. Aug. 13 at The Palace Theatre.

Queensryche came to mainstream attention with the 1990 album "Empire." The disc became the band's biggest success behind the No. 1 power ballad "Silent Lucidity."

CLP planning 'Winter' show

EBENSBURG - Cresson Lake Playhouse will hold auditions for "The Winter Wonderettes" at 1 p.m. July 11 at the Cresson Lake Rehearsal Hall, 526 W. Ogle St.

The production - scheduled for Dec. 2 through 4 - is a sequel to the Off-Broadway hit "The Marvelous Wonderettes," which was performed at Cresson Lake this spring. The show is under the direction of Cresson Lake's Artistic Director Brett Keith of Tyrone. Keith also directed "Wonderettes."

As in "The Marvelous Wonderettes," the cast consists of four women: Betty Jean (strong bass voice), Cindy Lou (mezzo soprano), Missy (soprano) and Suzy (mezzo alto). All roles are available.

Those wishing to audition should prepare 32 bars of a 1960s-style vocal selection for the audition. Piano accompaniment will be provided.
