Sustainability of state forests challenged

UNIVERSITY PARK - A new report indicates that Pennsylvania forests have declined slightly in the last decade and face a number of threats, according to an expert in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences.

While the report focuses on the big picture, the key findings are relevant to Pennsylvanians and are worth considering, Jim Finley, professor of forest resources, said.

He noted insect issues remain a problem from the emerald ash borer, hemlock wooly adelgid, elongated scale, gypsy moth and other native and non-native insects.
