Grocers Fight Cancer Day Thursday
The American Cancer Society and Giant Eagle locations in Altoona, Bedford, Ebensburg and Indiana will host their 21st annual Grocers Fight Cancer Day event on Thursday.
This one-day event will be filled with special sale items, double fuelperks on all gift cards, celebrity baggers, entertainment, raffles, games of chance and more.
A group of Wolf Furniture employees, known as “The Wolf Gang,’’ have come to bag groceries as a group after work from 5 to 8 pm. for the past 20 years as part of Grocers Fight Cancer Day at Giant Eagle. Shown are (from left): front row — Cindy Cornmesser, P.J. Maceno, Paulette Gresik and Chris Bertani; back row — Kathy Shaffer, Laura Jones and Darryll Sommers.
At least 5 percent of the day's sales will be donated to the American Cancer Society to help "bag" cancer for good.
During the past 20 years with the help and support of our community, Grocers Fight Cancer has raised over $1.1 million for the local ACS to help provide funds for cancer research, funding and support for cancer patients and their families and education/
"This truly unique event is one where anyone from a mother of four doing her weekly shopping to a co-worker buying lunch for the office to a 9-year-old buying a candy bar with their allowance can make a donation to the ACS. This truly is a community event, and each year, we become one step closer to finding a cure. Please mark your calendars and come out and enjoy the celebration as we all make a difference in the fight against cancer,'' said Marc McKillop, general manager at Giant Eagle, Altoona.
