Logan approves plans for Lakemont used-car lot

Plans are being made for opening a used-car lot in Lakemont.

Logan Township supervisors recently approved land development plans, permitting owner Curt Haney to move forward. Haney received permission to consolidate lots at Park Avenue and Stillwood Street, creating a 110-by-130-foot parking lot for the proposed business.

Engineer Gary Wiser of Stiffler, McGraw & Associates, Hollidaysburg, on Haney's behalf, recently presented plans to the township Planning Commission.

An existing garage will be used as a sales office, and eight parking spaces will be set aside for customers and employees, Wiser said. A driveway entrance to the site will be accessible via Stillwood Street.

Storm water will be directed into a rock-lined ditch created with the widening of Park Avenue, Wiser said.

When the commission reviewed the project and agreed to forward it to supervisors, commission member John Klingeman cast a no vote.

"Park Avenue is developing into a beautiful spot," Klingeman said. "A used-car lot does not seem to fit in with long-term development."

Supervisors, who reviewed the project last week, offered no opposition.

Some used car lots are very nice, Supervisor Ed Frontino said.

Supervisors also noted that the site is zoned commercial. It was residential until 2000 when supervisors voted 2-1 in favor of rezoning, the year after the Blair County Ballpark opened on Park Avenue.
