The Altoona Mirror

MARTINSBURG - The Morrisons Cove Rotary Club is inviting everyone to start their new year with lots of "nyuks, nyuks, nyuks" at its first Stoogefest fundraiser on Jan. 27 at The Park at Morrisons Cove.

The evening will be filled with hilarious short films, games, competitions, a "Bowling Blind" bowling tournament featuring music from the '30s and '40s and special lighting.

Happy hour kicks off with registration at 5:30 p.m. at Oakley's Mocktail Bar, where participants will be able to buy an event T-shirt and be treated to an "incredible'' buffet. The menu will include lots of laughs with Knucklehead Sandwiches, Soitenly Salad, Curly Fries, Shemp Cocktail, Boid's Nest Soup, Nincompoop Pasta, Woob Woob Whoopie Pies and Larry's Lattes.

A silent auction will provide guests an opportunity to bid on "Soitenly Not Poifect" baskets featuring "Regifted, Recycled & Refurbished Gift Baskets."

Loren Horton, club member and event games chairman, encourages everyone to come and join in the Stoogefest contests.

"Guests can dress up to win the Curly Howard Look-a-Like Contest, become a babe and dress to win the 'Hey Toots, Stooge Girl' Contest or make every shot count in the Black & White Basketball game. For those who prefer more of a mental rather than physical challenge, they can kick back, relax and enjoy playing Three Stooges Trivial Poitsuit Challenge. Pitch N Putt (Stooge golf) will also be available along with Jacks, Marbles & Tiddly Winks Contests. There truly will be something for everyone to try," Horton said.

Rotary District Governor Melinda Golden and Assistant District Governor Gary Shaffer will be two of the judges for the competitions.

"It is our hope that other Rotary Clubs in District 7350 and their guests will join us," said Roseanne Conrad, club president.

"The event will provide a silly, fun-filled environment that will unite people in community spirit and fellowship in a positive, old-fashioned atmosphere. The event provides many areas of friendly, mindless competition that would be fun for all Rotarians. Our buffet will be top-notch and our 'Mocktail Bar' offers a selection of fruity, icy drinks complete with umbrellas and fruit slices. Our silent auction will again, be a silly offering of themed baskets that will hopefully bring in generous bids to elevate our fundraising net."

Tickets are $39 for a single ticket and $73 per couple. Tickets include the buffet and drinks, and all the activities. Parking is free. Tickets are available at The Park at Morrisons Cove, M&T Bank Roaring Spring and Martinsburg branches and Roaring Spring Department Store.

Stoogefest is a new fundraising event for the Morrisons Cove Rotary Club. The funds raised will help to underwrite several recreational programs provided at The Park, as well as educational based projects to create awareness that illiteracy does exist in our immediate area, our district and the world. Morrisons Cove Rotary has a long history of supporting education and illiteracy.

The event is open to the public, and you need not a member of Rotary to attend.
