Bureau gives scholarships
The Cambria County Farm Bureau recently presented $300 scholarships to three area students.
Scholarships were awarded to Annie Cekada of Mineral Point, a junior at Wilmington College majoring in animal science; Jennie Vorhauer of Summerhill, a sophomore at Allegheny College majoring in biology; and Kaitlin Rieg of Loretto, a sophomore at Penn State majoring in agriculture science. Rieg's scholarship was sponsored by NAPA of Cresson.

Forestry conference set
Penn State Cooperative Extension, in partnership with Penn State School of Forest Resources, Woodland Owners Association of Centre County, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry and the Pennsylvania Game Commission, will hold the 2012 Central Region Forest Landowners Conference from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Penn State School of Forest Resources Building.
This year's conference will offer updates and information for Pennsylvania's forest landowners.

Grazing seminar March 22
The 15th annual Northwest Pennsylvania Grazing Conference will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. March 22 at the Zion Church 2.9 miles south of Interstate 80, exit 62, near Clarion.
This year's conference will focus on the use of sound ecological principles of grazing management to improve soil health.
Keynote speaker is Ray Archuleta, a 23-year veteran soil scientist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Schools eligible for grants
Monsanto Fund, the philanthropic arm of Monsanto Co., is launching America's Farmers Grow Rural Education to aid rural school districts by providing grants in 1,245 counties across 39 states.
Farmers can nominate a public school district in their rural community by April 30 to compete for a $10,000 or $25,000 grant to support a science and/or math educational program.
The Monsanto Fund will award 199 grants this year.

Sire-selection workshop set
A sire-selection workshop for cattle breeders will be held March 10 at the Pennsylvania Cattleman's College at the Pennsylvania Livestock Evaluation Center.
The facility is on Route 45, about nine miles southwest of the Penn State University Park campus, near the Ag Progress Days site at Rock Springs.
The Cattleman's College will offer information for cattle breeders on topics such as animal health, feeder-calf marketing, reproduction and beef quality assurance recertification. The program is sponsored by Pfizer Animal Health, the Pennsylvania Cattleman's Association and Penn State Extension.
