Derry Area's three-time state champion Jimmy Gulibon hadn't wrestled since tearing his MCL on Dec. 30 in the Powerade finals.

But the Penn State recruit returned over the weekend and won the 126-pound title of the District 7 Section 2 Class AA Tournament in convincing fashion, ringing up a 16-1 technical fall over Charleroi's previously unbeaten Aaron Toth in 3:36. It was his fourth section tournament title.

Jefferson-Morgan won the team title by 67 points, 209-142, over Bentworth. J-M had four champions and two runners-up.

In Class AAA, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, two Central Catholic returning state placewinners will miss the postseason with injuries.

Returning state runner-up Jason Luster missed the entire season after having shoulder surgery. Austin Coniker, who took sixth, is out with a knee injury he sustained the second week of the season.

Two other Viking wrestlers, Tyler Zymroz, who was a two-time state qualifier before having to give up the sport because of a heart condition, and Matt Bradley (concussion) have missed most of the last two seasons.

McDowell shines in D-10

McDowell placed 14 wrestlers in the top four of the District 10 Class AAA Tournament, and 11 of them qualified for the Northwest Regional.

McDowell had five champions, four runners-up and two third-place finishers.
