Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic athletic director Greg Snyder will be leaving his post at the end of the academic year.
But the 37-year-old will remain in the Altoona-Johnstown Catholic diocese when the next school year begins.
After three years of leading the Marauders' athletic program, Snyder will take over as the athletic director at Bishop Carroll Catholic. He was also named the Huskies' football coach effective immediately.
"I am a Bishop Carroll graduate," Snyder said. "I played sports at Bishop Carroll, I coached at Bishop Carroll. I really loved and enjoyed the time I had while at Bishop Carroll.
"When the opportunity presented itself to me to go back to Bishop Carroll, I jumped at the chance."
Snyder is a graduate of Juniata College, where he enjoyed a successful baseball career. He was the assistant varsity football coach and head coach of the junior varsity team at Bishop Carroll from 1997-2006. From 1997-2003, Snyder served as assistant varsity baseball coach and was the co-head coach on the 2007 district runner-up team.
Snyder takes over for former athletic director and football coach Craig Sponsky and is willing to accept the challenge that awaits him. Last football season, the Huskies were 1-9 overall and have had one winning season since 2005 when they were 12-1. Bishop Carroll was 11-3 in 2010.
"With hard work and dedication, any obstacle and challenge can be overcome," Snyder said. "I plan on giving these kids 100 percent at all times."
"We are excited to have Greg serve as our new athletic director and football coach," Bishop Carroll board of trustees athletic committee chair Victor Tranquillo said. "He is very familiar with our athletic program and with his extensive athletic experience, we are confident he will positively guide our student-athletes within an athletic program based on Catholicity."
Bishop Carroll principal Lorie Ratchford is also pleased to welcome Snyder.
"We believe he has the knowledge, organizational skills and work ethic to help Bishop Carroll provide its students with exceptional athletic programs," Ratchford said.
Leaving Bishop Guilfoyle wasn't an easy decision for Snyder.
"[Greg] is a very knowledgeable and dedicated athletic administrator," Bishop Guilfoyle principal Bernard Kubitza released in a statement. "It has been a pleasure to work with him. He will be missed. I wish him the best in his new position."
"I have greatly enjoyed working here at Bishop Guilfoyle and all the great people associated with the school," Snyder said. "Bishop Carroll has always been my home and my family, and this was a great opportunity for me."
