Covering the bases

May 1, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

LEADING OFF: Curve manager P.J. Forbes hopes to rejoin the team today in Erie. He will take part in some stretching exercises to test his sore back, then will decide if he can make the trip.

SAFE AT FIRST: RHP Tim Alderson was sent back to the Curve from Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday. Alderson made only two appearances for Indy, pitching three scoreless innings in his Triple-A debut before allowing two runs on four hits in one inning last Tuesday.

STEALING SECOND: 1B Matt Curry continues to be a bright spot for the Curve offense. He went 2-for-3 Monday and is hitting .307.

ROUNDING THIRD: Monday's game produced a rarity with three triples - two by the Curve - and it's even more rare given the short fences at Erie's Jerry Uht Park.

HEADING HOME: Former Curve slugger Brad Eldred went 2-for-5 in his first game for the Detroit Tigers but has gone 0-for-8 since then to land at .154 after three games.
