Locals participate in Grange Day

June 4, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

Bill and Carol Hemminger from Buckhorn Grange, Wilmore; John and Mary Strittmatter, Banner Grange, Ebensburg; and Olive Brawley, Pleasant Hill Grange, Chest Springs, attended Grange Day at the Radisson Penn Harris, Camp Hill.

They attended a morning workshop led by the Marcellus Shale Coalition and met with Mike Rader, Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee director.

Grange members also visited legislators' offices and left messages for them.

The Grange opposes redistricting of representatives because it would mean that rural residents would have fewer representatives. The Grange supports the funding of Penn State Extension, which is a means of transferring the research of the university to the farmer.
