BELLWOOD - A Bellwood man pepper sprayed his wife after she brought home a kitten, Bellwood police said.
Dale A. Stehley, 68, of 301 S. Second St. told officers he sprayed his wife because he "didn't want no [expletive deleted] cat" in his house and she had refused to get rid of a kitten she brought home Tuesday, police said.
It was about 8 p.m. when the argument over the cat turned violent, with Stehley slapping his wife before using the pepper spray, police wrote in Stehley's arrest papers.
Stehley's wife complained of chest pains and was taken by AMED for treatment, police said. She told police her husband had been drinking all day.
Stehley was jailed Tuesday night on 10 percent of $35,000 and posted bail on Wednesday. A preliminary hearing is slated for Aug. 7 before Magisterial District Judge Fred B. Miller.
