Each Sunday when the people in our ballparks stand to honor those who died on 9/11, someone sings "God Bless America."
Why would God want to do that? I love America, but present day America is not very likable. The basics that made it great are being destroyed. Marriage commitment is becoming a joke (polls verify it), and dysfunctional families outnumber the traditional nuclear families.
Faith in God has always been the guide for people all over the world. We have no control over where God puts us in this world, and how we worship God varies, but the basics of reverence for life and efforts to live a good life are all God has ever expected.
Childbirth, once regarded as a sacred blessing, has become an "only if convenient" option.
Couples who live together to see if they're compatible have lessened the commitment to marry, and the odds of lasting marriages are less than 50 percent. Lovemaking has little to do with love, and if it results in pregnancy, there's that "out."
Present day grandmas and grandpas regarded marriage as lifetime commitment. They struggled, as all couples do, but they put family first and children were their major bond. Taking a life through abortion was regarded as sinful and was abhorrent to members of the medical profession.
Marriage as a sacrament took another "hit" with the president's endorsement of gay marriage.
Our freedoms as Americans includes the right to same sex relationships, but they cannot be part of marriage as regarded by people with faith in God.
