Kenneth D. Swan, Lockport, N.Y., passed away July 3, 2012, in Niagara Hospice House.
He was born in Berwinsdale, son of John T. and Effie (Davis) Swan. He married Virginia Colton in 1970.
Surviving are his wife; three children: Gina (Jason Klein) of East Amherst, N.Y., Rene in Kentucky and Kenneth D. Jr. of Middleport, N.Y.; five grandchildren: Jonah and Emma Wisniewski, Olivia and Adam Klein and Grace Swan; a sister, Kathryn Lytle; two brothers: Harold (Naomi) and Robert (Margie); two sisters-in-law: Katherine "Betty" Swan and Margaret Swan; a brother-in-law, Robert Laing; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by seven siblings: Charles (killed in WWII), Forest, Howard, Clair, Eleanor, Grace Christy and Lois Laing.
Ken served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1963-66, including two years in Europe. He was a Niagara County sheriff deputy from 1968-70, an alderman from 1992-93 and the 38th mayor of the City of Lockport from 1994-2000, having served three terms. He was the owner and operator of Kenneth D. Swan Demolition & Excavation Inc. from 1973 to the present.
Ken attended Lockport Alliance Church and was a member of the American Legion and Lockport Masonic Lodge 73.
