The July 19 Mirror editorial, "Obama Bleeding Donors," cries out for refutation. Barack Obama's donors, largely idealistic citizens with modest incomes, are being badly out spent by Mitt Romney's super rich contributors .
Businesses are investing heavily in Romney's campaign, expecting to reap large financial rewards. They prefer as little regulation as possible and are heedless of environmental risks from carbon fuels and fracking.
The Citizens United Supreme Court decision allowed corporations and billionaires to buy elections, for example Swiss banks donated heavily to Ron Paul's campaign. These folks are indifferent to the general welfare of the nation and its citizenry. They are only concerned with increasing their own profits.
The Mirror's acknowledgment of an oligarchy is one thing; it's acquiescence is reprehensible. Our government is for the people, by the people not for the rich, by the rich.
