CLAYSBURG - A Queen woman is in Blair County Prison a week after she gave birth to a baby, its father allegedly a 14-year-old boy.
Brittany Lenay Weyandt, 20, of 154 Appletree Lane faces four felony charges for allegedly having sex with the teen. The case makes Weyandt the fifth Claysburg-area adult to be charged in child sex-abuse cases in just over a month.
Weyandt had sex with the boy repeatedly from December to March, meeting with him at a mutual acquaintance's house on Hilltop Road, Claysburg, police said in an affidavit.
In June, the alleged victim's mother approached Greenfield Township police after Weyandt reportedly told her about the pregnancy and showed her a sonogram image of the fetus.
The teen victim had frequently accompanied Weyandt to Altoona Regional for appointments throughout her pregnancy, police said.
Weyandt gave birth to the child last week, Greenfield Township Police Chief Ron Givler said Wednesday.
A few days later, he said, police arrested her on felony charges that include statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors.
She remains in Blair County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
The child is staying with Weyandt's mother, Givler said.
Givler said he couldn't comment on how Weyandt met her alleged victim, nor on whether tests had been conducted to prove the alleged victim's paternity. The boy allegedly told investigating officers that he and Weyandt often had unprotected sex.
The teen allegedly told police the sex was consensual but at 14, he is below the age of consent in Pennsylvania.
Weyandt faces a preliminary hearing Aug. 6 before Roaring Spring Magisterial District Judge Craig Ormsby.
At least four other adults, all married couples, have been charged in Claysburg sex abuse cases since July. Patrick and Tabatha Partsch face felony sexual assault charges, while Rickey and Christina Bryant were charged after Rickey Bryant allegedly bounced a child on his lap while nude.
