A. Roger Poske, 78, Altoona, died Wednesday at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born in Pittsburgh, son of the late Margaret M. Poske Macharola and stepfather E. Nicholas Macharola. He married Marjorie A. Schmidhammer on Feb. 13, 1960, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife; two sons: Jeffrey of Salisbury, N.C., and Kevin and wife, Julia, of Marietta, Ga.; two daughters: Deborah Goodell and husband, Brett, of Frederick, Md., and Karen Kirk and husband, Bill, of Philadelphia; six grandchildren: Melissa and Casey Poske, Shauna and Amanda Goodell and Nicole and Valerie Poske; and two great-grandchildren: Madison and Hayden Poske.
Roger was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired as a van driver from Blair Senior Services after more than 14 years of service. He previously had worked for 23 years as a driver for UNSCO Linen Service. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Roger enjoyed photography, music and reading and was a member of the Camera Club.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, by Father Brian Saylor. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
