Janice E. "Sophie" Stanford, 91, of Williamsville, N.Y., died Sept. 2, 2012, at Altoona Regional following an extended illness. Janice had been in the care of Home Nursing Hospice at her daughter's Duncansville home for the past year.
She was born in Nescopeck, daughter of the late Virscoe L. and C. Rowena (Stout) Shadle. Along with her husband of 44 years, Charles P. Stanford, she was a partner in Stanford Display Studios Inc. in Buffalo, N.Y.
Janice is survived by four children: Charlene M. Stanford in Maryland, Charles P. Stanford Jr. (Ava) in Arizona, Jana M. Sidler (Blaine) of Duncansville and Alfred D. Stanford (Jeannine) in Florida; two grandchildren: Kristen N. Starkovich (Alex) and Julie M. Sanders (Scott); a great-grandson, Brody Scott Sanders; two sisters: Eloise Mannes and Jane Glasser; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers: Virscoe Shadle Jr. and Sterling Shadle; and two sisters: Marion Franger and Marcella Kaupp.
Janice enjoyed traveling extensively and was always ready for an adventure. She delighted in her support of Mishler Theatre and SAMA. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 8, 2012, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Buffalo, N.Y.
Interment was made at Elmlawn Cemetery, Tonawanda, N.Y.
