Congressman Bill Shuster co-sponsored a bill to sell off the Northeast corridor of Amtrak that travels from Washington, D.C., to Boston. It is a very profitable part of Amtrak. If this happens the rest of Amtrak will collapse.
Amtrak employees are the largest single group paying into railroad retirement. Without these employees, the railroad retirement system will collapse.
Mitt Romney on his campaign trail made two speeches that stated if he is elected president, he would not support Amtrak.
If this would happen the Railroad Pension Fund would become insolvent. Railroad retired employees would then most likely be put into Social Security.
There are thousands of Amtrak passengers who depend on Amtrak to get to work. Also, there are many senior citizens who no longer are able to drive cars and can't afford to fly who depend on Amtrak. Let's band together to save Amtrak.
