Shirley A. Hammond, 75, Portage, formerly of St. Augustine, died Tuesday. She was born in Patton RD, daughter of Thaddeus Sr. and Enna (Ross) Hammond. Surviving are two brothers: Thaddeus Jr. and Timothy; and two sisters-in-law: Janet and Josephine Hammond. She was preceded in death by four brothers: Charles, John, James and infant David; and a sister-in-law, Patsy Sue Hammond. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, the Rev. Joseph Fleming as celebrant.
