Barbara Evelyn (Hennessy) MacCourtney, 81, passed away Friday at St. Anne's Salvatorian Campus in Milwaukee, Wis.
She was born in Altoona, the youngest daughter of Bertha Hennessy. She married Leo MacCourtney on Dec. 27, 1954, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Altoona.
Surviving are her husband; four children: Leo Jr. (Barbara), Molly (Tom) Duffey, Kane (Carol) and Chris (Linda); and her grandchildren: Colin, Conor, Kyle and Caitlin MacCourtney, Ryan, Matthew and Keenan Duffey, Kelsey and Christian MacCourtney and Erin, Sarah and Daniel MacCourtney.
Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School, and she graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. in education. One of her great loves was teaching, and she taught in Catholic schools in Pennsylvania and West Virginia and served as principal of St. Joseph Catholic School in Huntington, W.Va. Her greatest love was her husband, Leo, and her family. She especially treasured her 12 grandchildren. They were blessed by her good counsel through the years, and she celebrated each milestone in their lives.
A private memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at St. Anne's Salvatorian Campus, Father Douglas Leonhardt officiating. Interment will be at Woodmere Cemetery in Huntington, W.Va.
