Opera wonderful

November 12, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

I attended "Cavalleria Rusticana" conducted by Teresa Cheung, music director of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra. What a wonderful evening and so full of inspiration.

The cast of Camille Gifford, Elizabeth Moulton, Ricardo Rosa, Nicholas Simpson, Jenny Ribeiro and Janice Mianulli, as well as the State College Choral Society and Juniata Concert Choir were wonderfully prepared and had beautiful voices.

The part I enjoyed the most was the Juniata Concert Choir singing "The Easter Passage" from the balcony. They filled the Mishler Theatre with heavenly voices, and all I could think of was the Rapture, when the Lord takes us home. It was an awesome moment.

If the ASO does another opera, I recommend residents attend for a breath-taking performance.

Maestra Cheung has been an inspiration for the Altoona community.

We need to support our symphony.

Russ Shelley, conductor of the choral groups, deserves praise for his preparation of these singers.

See you at the next symphony on March 2.
