Thomas M. "Smitty" Smith, 64, of Johnstown died Nov. 1, 2012, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a 3 1/2-year battle with bone cancer.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Robert John and Madeline (Feathers) Smith.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 35 years, Anita M. (Miller); children: Andrea Christine and husband, Scott Flowers, of Harrisburg and Robert of Indiana, Pa.; grandchildren, Aniston Paige and Ethan Hunter Flowers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He retired after 29 years as a shop teacher at Ferndale Area High School, where he was a football and wrestling coach.
Smitty was a 1966 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and a 1978 graduate of Penn State University.
He was a member of St. John Reformed Church, Hollidaysburg, and the Ferndale Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and holding his annual chili fest. He was also an avid Penn State fan.
At the family's request, a funeral service was not held. However, friends were received Nov. 3, 2012, at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., Johnstown.
