Local winner named

December 1, 2012
From Mirror staff reports , The Altoona Mirror

The local winner of a $1 million Powerball windfall has been identified, two days after she bought the winning ticket at an Altoona gas station.

Skylar Uhren of Altoona won $1 million before tax deductions, Pennsylvania Lottery spokesman Gary Miller said Friday.

Attempts to reach Uhren, who works at D'Ottavio's Italian restaurant at 29th Street and Broad Avenue according to employees there, for comment were unsuccessful Friday.

A photo posted on Facebook shows a smiling Uhren standing behind an oversized Pennsylvania Lottery novelty check with Tracy Bender, also identified as a D'Ottavio's employee.

The pair's pages on the website were filled with friends' messages of congratulations, from financial advice - "get a really good financial planner" - to simpler recommendations like: "Go on a long vacation."

Uhren bought the lucky ticket at Swaraj Service Station on Seventh Avenue, Miller said. Winning $1 million tickets were also sold in Butler and Montgomery counties.
