BEDFORD - A Bedford County man admitted Monday to fatally wounding his friend in August during a drunken argument gone awry, according to court documents.
Randy Foor, 51, of Bedford Township pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, a misdemeanor that could earn him a prison sentence from a few months to five years, for the death of 49-year-old Dennis Sprigg of Manns Choice.
After a day of drinking together and on-and-off squabbling Aug. 11 at Foor's home, the friends confronted each other in an argument about softball, state police at Bedford said.
Foor shoved Sprigg, who lost his balance and cracked his head off a concrete sidewalk, police said. Witnesses described a distraught Foor tearfully apologizing to his mortally wounded friend as emergency workers arrived.
Sprigg died seven weeks later at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, after doctors' repeated attempts at brain surgery.
Defense attorney Joel D. Peppetti initially said he intended to take the case to trial, noting that Foor showed no intent to kill his friend, whose drunken state could have contributed to his rough fall and serious injuries.
Peppetti did not respond to a call seeking comment Monday.
As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dropped an aggravated assault charge against Foor. A sentencing date is not listed in online court documents.
