Donald K. Chilcote

Donald K. Chilcote, 86, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Garden Heights, Altoona, died at noon Thursday at his residence.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Joseph Emory and Mapha (Coy) Chilcote. He married Marian J. Weber on Aug. 28, 1947, at Hicks Memorial United Methodist Church, Duncansville.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters: Donna C. Quatrara and husband, Jacob, of Altoona, Diane L. Chilcote of Hollidaysburg and Debra A. Tongel and husband, Rick, of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren: James D. Vaughn and wife, Donna, Cristine Huffine and husband, Jonathan, R. Michael Gaus and wife, Susan, Kimberly Gaus, Kelly Kelly, Breanna Tongel and Ricky Tongel; two great-granddaughters; and a sister, Jane Showalter of Pittsburgh.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lynn.

Donald was a graduate of Altoona High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving as an electrician's mate second class. He retired as a manager from Bridgestone/Firestone Auto Center in Washington, Pa., previously the J.C. Penney Auto Center.

Donald was a member of Puzzletown Road Bible Church and was a member of the former Garden Heights United Methodist Church. He also belonged to the Lakemont Lions Club for more than 50 years. He enjoyed gardening and baseball, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates and Atlanta Braves.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Gilden Barton Funeral Home, 1401 Ninth Ave., Altoona, where a service will be held at 5:30 p.m. by the Lakemont Lions Club. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at the funeral home by Pastors Lynn F. Johnston and Jon Gross. Interment with military honors will be held at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lakemont Lions Club in Don's memory.
