Penn Cambria, Portage to play in championship

PORTAGE - Megan Wheeler scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Penn Cambria to a season-opening 44-27 win over Purchase Line at the Portage Tournament in high school girls basketball Friday.

Bri Mulhern and Emily Roberts scored 11 points apiece for PC, which will play Portage at 7:30 tonight in the championship game. Karli Rorabaugh led PL with 18 points.

Olivia McCabe scored 18 points, Portage led Harmony, 35-4, at halftime and the Lady Mustangs cruised to a 63-16 rout of Harmony in the other game.

Portage had other double-figure scorers in Emily Chobany (12), Paisley Zatek (12) and Lexi Wozniak (11).

Portage will play Penn Cambria at 7:30 tonight in the championship game.

Homer-Center Tournament

HOMER CITY - Bri Wasser had 15 points as Central Cambria went on to defeat Meyersdale, 48-18, in the Homer-Center Tip-Off Tournament.

Katie Bracken added 13 points for the Lady Red Devils, who will play Homer-Center in the championship today.

Cambria Heights lost to Homer-Center, 50-45, in the other game.

Kara Cordell led Cambria Heights with 20 points, and teammate Emily Crowell had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Maggie McLoughlin scored 23 points for Homer-Center.

Cambria Heights will play in the consolation game today at 3.

Darby Lee led the Lady Mountain Lions with 14 points, followed by teammate Kaycie Reffner's 13 points.

For Mount Lebanon, Margie McCaffrey had 16 points.

Altoona will play in the consolation game today at 2.

Forest Hills Tournament

SIDMAN - Taylor McKnight scored a game-high 15 points to lead Central to a first-round 62-39 victory over North Star in the Forest Hills Tipoff Tournament.

Brayley Lewis scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Ashley Smith also scored 12 points for Central, which rolled to a 22-7 lead after one quarter. Central will meet tournament host Forest Hills - a 63-46 first-round winner over Everett - in tonight's 7:30 championship game.

Courtney Schrock led North Star with 14 points.

Three Moshannon Valley players scored five points each.

Juniata Valley outscored Williamsburg, 7-0, in the overtime to win, 42-35, in the first round of the other game.

Abbie Zinobile led the winners with 14 points, while Kerigan Ammerman added 11 points. Williamsburg got 10 points from Haley Rhule.

Juniata Valley plays Glendale in the title game tonight at 7:30. Williamsburg gets Moshannon Valley in the consolation game.
