Dr. Edward Preston Fischer

Dr. Edward Preston Fischer, 73, Duncansville, died at Altoona Regional after a brief illness.

He was born in Lima, Ohio, son of the late Rev. Edward and Evelyn (Feister) Fischer. He married Alice Dick on Feb. 13, 2010.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Bryan Hershberger of Allentown; four daughters: Kristina Trunnell and husband, Richard, of New Market, Md., Tahlia Fischer of Bakersfield, Calif., and Margaux Fischer and Natasha Fischer, both of Santa Monica, Calif.; two granddaughters: Lillian and Emily Trunnell; and his twin sister, Beverly Gundy and husband, Gerden, "Gordy" of Huntley, Ill.

Dr. Fischer graduated from Wheaton College in 1961 with dual degrees in chemistry and business. He then graduated from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, and served a four-year internship at Ruislip Air Force Base, London, England. He then completed oncology study at MD Anderson Cancer Center and completed surgical residency at Kern Medical Center, Bakersfield, Calif., under Dr. Neil Arbegast. He also completed an oncologic reconstructive residency.

In 1992, Dr. Fischer moved to Duncansville, where he continued his surgical/oncologic private practice until his retirement in 1998. One of his greatest joys was the purchase and restoration of Sunbrook Mansion, which was built in 1890.

Dr. Fischer had many interests. He was a pilot and was president of Bakersfield Wine Society and The Blairmont Club. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling, playing chess, watching old movies, spending time with his friends and family and caring for his dog, Kojac.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.
