A 16-year-old boy was killed Wednesday afternoon in a shooting at 125 E. Third Ave., Altoona police said.
Police confirmed witness accounts that the boy was fatally shot but did not release his name.
Police stressed, "the public is in NO danger," in a department news release sent out Wednesday evening.
Police were investigating a shooting at 125 East Third Ave. in the East End section of Altoona Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses said one person was taken into custody and one died.
No charges have been filed, and no further information will be released until the end of the investigation, police said. Numerous patrol cars were seen in the area as neighbors gathered to find out more about the incident.
A number of crying teenagers congregated at a street corner near the scene.
Blair County Chief Deputy District Attorney Wade Kagarise declined comment, and Blair County Coroner Patricia Ross did not return a phone call for comment late Wednesday.
City detectives and AMED also were at the scene.
