Beverly L. Wheeler, 82, Altoona, died Sunday morning at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview after a short illness.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Vanderbilt and Alma B. (Downing) Sullivan. She married James W. Wheeler in July 1961 in Springfield, Tenn., and he preceded her in death in July 1977.

Surviving are three daughters: Jocelyn Sullivan of Germantown, Md., Renee Wheeler of Altoona and Robyne Wheeler of Ebensburg; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Reardon Sullivan of Silver Spring, Md.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Velma "Pat" Hooe.

Beverly was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired in 1992 from Butterick Fashion Marketing as a supervisor. She was a member of Sixteenth Street Methodist Church, where she had served as a trustee. She was past president of Women of Color and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

Beverly enjoyed crocheting, word search puzzles and painting small statues.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Sixteenth Street Methodist Church by Bishop Charles S. Burford. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.

The family requests that contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Arrangements are by The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona.
