Ruth E. "Ruthie" Knott, 79, Graystone Court, Bellemead, formerly of Spook Hollow Road, Altoona, died Tuesday afternoon at Altoona Regional.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Donald and Eleanor (Treese) Baird. She married Frank W. Knott Jr. on Sept. 15, 1949, in Winchester, Va., and he preceded her in death on May 3, 2006, after 56 years of marriage.
Surviving are four children: Jeanie Long and husband, Dave, of Altoona, Dona Thompson and husband, Bob, of Altoona, Richard and wife, Stacey, of Duncansville and Michael and wife, Cindy, of Alexandria; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Baird; and best friends, Jean and William Erbeck and family.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: Donald, Paul, William and Richard Baird; and a sister, Vivian Baird.
Ruthie attended Faith Baptist Church, Altoona. She was formerly employed as a sales associate for Kmart, Food Warehouse and Giant Eagle. She enjoyed sewing and painting.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Pastor Paul Pease officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
