William W. Slemmer Sr., 93, Annapolis, Md., died Sunday at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late William Daniel and Anna (Feiereisen) Slemmer. He married Betty Joy Ross, who died in 1997.
Surviving are four children: William W. Jr. in Colorado, Joseph D. of Hagerstown, Md., and Nancy Slemmer and Lynn Mullineaux, both of Annapolis, Md.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was the last of 10 siblings.
William was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army who served in WWII, Korea and NATO. He retired with the rank of major. While in the Army, he received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Certificate of Merit. In addition, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Baltimore City Water Department, where he was the chief of customer service. He attended Penn State University and the University of Maryland.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Manchester Baptist Church, 2933 Manchester Baptist Church Road, Manchester, Md. Interment will be in Manchester Baptist Church Cemetery.
