Just a few thoughts on SCI Cresson:
1) What if Cambria County could purchase SCI Cresson at a reduced price? Part of the prison could be used to house prisoners from jails and prisons across the state and possibly from adjacent states. The rates must be high enough to make the prison self-sufficient, yet competitive enough to convince other prisons to send the prisoners there.
2) Part of the prison could be converted to office space and leased to state agencies and departments that require additional office space.
3) Part of the prison could be converted to a museum on prison life. This could become a tourist attraction and admission could be charged to tour the museum.
Those are three ideas about how to use a vacant prison and give former employees an opportunity to have a life-sustaining job.
