Freezing rain and afternoon snowstorms are expected to make travel conditions hazardous throughout the day today, according to the National Weather Service.
A winter weather advisory was issued for Blair, Clearfield and surrounding counties from 7 a.m. today through 7 a.m. Saturday.
A wintry mix of precipitation is expected throughout the morning. Motorists should watch for ice on area roadways, NWS meteorologists said.
Rainfall should switch to snowstorms by the afternoon with a high of 37 degrees, but the temperature is expected to drop to lows in the teens through the weekend.
About 1 to 2 inches of snowfall is expected through the evening, according to NWS meteorologists.
The storm is expected to hit parts of the Northeast with heavy snowfall. United Airlines canceled about 350 flights ahead of today's storm, while American Airlines canceled 43 flights.
No cancellations were expected at Altoona-Blair County Airport ahead of the storm, airport officials said Thursday.
