In regard to the letter of Jan. 19 by Etta Albright about the availability of fully automatic assault weapons, she should walk into her nearest gun shop and try to buy one.
First, most gun shops don't carry them, and second, they have to go through a process to get a Class 3 license from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
It is strict and expensive. Anyone who wants to own a fully automatic weapon must go through an extensive background check, pay a high fee to have that gun registered as a National Firearms Act weapon and wait until the check is complete.
This is typical of the people who don't know all the facts.
