James Duncan "Sonny" Ferguson, 83, Sinking Valley, Altoona, died peacefully Saturday surrounded by his family at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late James and Genevieve (Burke) Ferguson. He married Teresa E. Miller on April 1, 1950, in Winchester, Va., and she preceded him in death on June 29, 1998.
Surviving are five children: Kathleen A. (Terry) Williams of Altoona, Bonnie L. (Dave) Wagner of Bear, Del., Brenda S. (John) Patterson of Tipton, Gregory J. (April) of Sinking Valley, Altoona, and Tracy E. (Rodney) Barger of Burnham; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Marlene (Ken) Focht and Carol (Dave) Luther, both of Altoona; and a special friend, Janet Johnson of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, James; and a brother, Eugene.
Jim retired as founder and owner of Ferguson Pest Control and Sinking Valley Lawn Care for 35 years. He was also owner of Ferguson Homes and was previously employed by Patwil Homes and Conrail. He was a member of the Tyrone Elks and Sinking Valley Country Club and past president of the Altoona Rifle and Pistol Club.
Jim was an avid baseball fan who enjoyed watching baseball and had a lifelong love of the New York Yankees. He enjoyed attending air shows to watch military planes, especially fighter jets, hunting, as well as golfing, playing cards and especially his family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sinking Valley, the Rev. T.M. Talbot-Moses officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be earmarked for the Tyrone Golf Activity Fund at Tyrone Area High School.
