Patrick J. Pensyl, 65, Duncansville, formerly of Altoona, died unexpectedly Saturday at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center.

He was born in Altoona, son of Jon Pensyl and the late Jean (Wood) Pensyl. He was first married to Susan Brown and later to Carol Chilcote, both of whom survive.

Also surviving are his father of Fort Valley, Ga.; seven children: Brian, Sheldon, Todd, Shawn, Eric, Susan Kephart (Jeff) and Amber Savino; 16 grandchildren; two brothers: Michael Fortenbaugh (Cynthia) of Altoona and James Pensyl in Georgia; and a sister, Jody Ann Sdig.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Beth Pensyl.

Patrick was a graduate of Altoona High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and later served in the Army National Guard. He retired as a pipefitter from Conrail after eight years of service. He was a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and also belonged to VFW Post 8685, Fort Apache, and he enjoyed sports cars and history.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church by the Franciscan Fathers. Committal with military honors will be held at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
