Mary E. Kennedy, 86, Altoona, formerly of Sinking Valley, died Monday afternoon at Altoona Regional.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late William and Matilda (Deppen) Hengst. She married William G. Kennedy on Aug. 30, 1944, in Winchester, Va., and he preceded her in death Nov. 25, 1999.
Surviving are two sons: William G. "Bill" Jr. and wife, Alexis, of Altoona and Edwin Richard "Rick" and wife, Irma, of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: William Hengst in Texas and George Hengst in Idaho; a sister, Elsie Antell of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two grandsons: Robert "Rob" and Edwin Richard "Rick" Kennedy.
Mary retired from the stockroom of Unkel Joe's Woodshed after five years of service. Previously she had been employed by Sylvania in Trenton, N.J., during WWII. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading and fishing and especially enjoyed attending the Blair Senior Services Center three days per week.
At Mary's prior request, a private viewing and service will be held at the convenience of the family, Pastor Bill Pepper officiating. Interment will be made at Arch Spring Presbyterian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blair Senior Services, 1320 12th Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
