All of this hubbub about the prison closings in Cresson and Greensburg raised my ire.
I used to work for Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co. as a generator technician. While I worked for them, I was assigned to work at SCI Greensburg. I was to perform a startup on the emergency generator system that was quite extensive and needless to say this system cost the Pennsylvania taxpayer a rather large sum of money.
A separate building was built to house the generator and its associated equipment. This was all done in the 2004-05 time period. Similar upgrades were done at Cresson in 2005-06.
After all this money was spent, they are going to close these prisons?
Who makes these decisions and why the underhanded, backdoor way it was done?
I have no vested interest in this other than being a resident of this state and taxpaying member thereof. If this doesn't anger you, you should probably check your pulse.
We allow this kind of thing to go on without any repercussions to those who sneak these things past us.
Has this country grown that apathetic that we just figure this kind of thing is business as usual and don't stand up and scream at the top of our lungs, "Enough is enough?"
I, for one am really tired of our elected officials conveniently ignoring us and our collective wishes. This next election cycle should be a real awakening for both parties, both at the state and federal level.
No more career politicians - a two-term limit or eight years total should be the maximum. That would solve a lot of our problems. I will now step down off my soapbox and make room for someone else.
