John J. Clouser, 83, Altoona, died Thursday at Altoona Regional surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Altoona, son of Wilhelm and Mary (Ehgartner) Clouser. He married Sylvia "Judy" Carrig on Jan. 31, 1958, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife; two sons: Ty and wife, Cathy, of Altoona and Chad and wife, Jacqueline, of Hollidaysburg; a daughter, Kelly of Monroeville; six grandchildren: Curtis, Bron, Brant, Kaylyn and Emma Belle Clouser and Kristy Sizemore; a great-granddaughter, Cora Eve Clouser; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Scully and husband, Bill; a sister-in-law, Judy Lang; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends: Rita Striedl and Vivian Marshall.
He was preceded in death by a son, Troy Andrew; a granddaughter, Breanna Renee; a sister, Betty Adamczyk; and a brother, Howard Lang Jr.
John was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict and retired from Altoona Hospital. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a charter member and officer of the Alto Art Guild and a lifetime member of the Bavarian Aid Society and Unter Uns, where he participated in the German dance group and choir.
John was well known for his artistic talents in the area and for his paintings, and he studied art under Herr Ecksner in Austria. He participated in art shows in Pittsburgh, State College and Altoona and gave private art lessons. He enjoyed gardening, skating, skiing, sports and especially watching his grandsons play football and doing arts and crafts with his granddaughters.
Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
