Dorothy L. Wertz, 79, Altoona, died Sunday at Altoona Regional after a brief illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Clement and Bertha (Reid) Weidlich. She married George K. Wertz on Dec. 17, 1954, in Altoona.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years; two sons: George Jr. and wife, Becky, of Bellwood and Donald and wife, Amy, of Duncansville; three daughters: Donna Akins and husband, Bob, in Maryland, Susan Shadenfroh and husband, John, of Altoona and Christina Young and husband, Rod, of Bellwood; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six brothers: Frank, John, Dick, Donald, Paul and Charlie; and three sisters: Donna Knee, Betty Nave and Pauline Robertson.
Dorothy was a 1951 graduate of Altoona High School and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and sewing and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her unconditional love for her entire family was beyond measure, as well as her thoughtfulness and caring for all those she met.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Stevens Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Jaffa Shriners.
