George Herman Wertz, 78, Weyers Cave, Va., passed away Wednesday at his home.
He was born in Hollidaysburg, son of the late Ernest and Goldie (Murtiff) Wertz. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Heatwole on Oct. 18, 1958.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters: Karen Miller and companion, Danny Campbell, of Crimora, Va., Susan Black and husband, Terry, of Grottoes, Va., and Carol Ann Patterson and husband, James, of Harrisonburg, Va.; five grandchildren: Dustin, Nathaniel, Tyler and Josette Black and Autumn Botkin; two great-grandchildren: Kaylee Black and (expecting a boy) Wyatt Black; two sisters: Annie Shaffer and husband, Bill, of Tyrone and Joann Litzinger and husband, Dennis, of Angola, N.Y.; two brothers: Donald Wertz and wife, Clara, of Alexandria and Larry McCloskey and wife, Karen, of Mercer; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
George was a retired truck driver and had served in the U.S. Army.
Friends will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes, Va., where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, Pastor Jim Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisonburg.
