George F. Bertram, 86, Cresson, died Monday at home.
He was born in Gallitzin, son of the late Herman and Alice (Stevens) Bertram. He married Brenda Lefort on Nov. 7, 2001.
Surviving are his wife; two children: Georgina Bender (David) of Lilly and James Bertram (Pattie Ann) of Altoona; four stepchildren: Sarah Gongloff (Gerald) of Loretto, Paul Adkins (Laurie) of St. Michael, Wayne Adkins (Tina) of Patton and Charles Helsel (Debbie) of Johnstown; a niece, Marie Kuntz (Bill) of Lilly; as well as other children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cora; his second wife, Catherine; and a stepson, Edward Helsel III.
George was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the European theater. He had worked as a coal miner and most recently was employed at Red Carpet Auctioneers, Cresson. He was a life member of Sankertown VFW and a member of Loretto American Legion.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013. Interment will be in Cresson Cemetery with military graveside rites by Sankertown VFW and other local veteran organizations.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
