Harry H. Salyards, 79, Duncansville, died Monday evening at his residence.
He was born in Huntingdon, son of Harry H. and Ruth (Varner) Salyards. He married Marjorie A. Mills on Oct. 28, 1955, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage; two daughters: Sherri Scott and husband, Glen, of Cumberland, Md., and Brenda Wolf and husband, Tom, of Duncansville; three sons: Randy and wife, Betsy, of Duncansville, Craig and wife, Kathy, of Altoona and Lou and wife, Lisa, in South Carolina; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Cahoon of Berwick, Maine.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Betty Tarlton and Dottie Richardson; and three brothers: Richard, William and Ronald.
Harry served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He retired as a minister from the Church of the Brethren, ordained in the Middle District and having served numerous churches, including Parkview Church of the Brethren in Lewistown and Yellow Creek and Bethel Churches of the Brethren in Everett. He also served as chaplain at Prince Gallitzin State Park and Blair County Prison. He was a member of Carson Valley Church of the Brethren.
Friends will be received from 1 until the 3 p.m. funeral service Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, by Pastor Bradley R. Runkle. Interment will be at Carson Valley Cemetery.
