Edith Jane Pickens, 91, Laurel View Village, Davidsville, formerly of Kings Highway, Altoona, died Thursday morning at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Harry L. and Elizabeth M. "Bessie" (Saylor) Haigh. She married Dorsey Bernon Pickens on Nov. 24, 1945, in Altoona, and he preceded her in death on March 6, 2000.
Surviving are two granddaughters: Jamie Kathryn Flick of Friendswood, Texas, formerly of Johnstown, and Emily Kasprzyk of San Francisco, Calif.; three great-grandsons: Kyle, Ryan and Bryce Flick; a daughter-in-law, Kristen Kasprzyk of Johnstown; and three cousins: Amy Perchy, Todd Coleman and Lois Cliber.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bernon LeRoy Pickens; and four brothers: John, George, Clifton and James Haigh.
Edith was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School. She was a member of the former Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona, and was active in the church and mission school. She was an avid reader and was also a volunteer for Contact Altoona and her local homemakers' group.
Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., the Rev. Charles L. Baughman officiating. Interment will be made at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
