Sister Melany Pereira, 67, of the Sisters of St. Ann, Ebensburg, died Sunday at Good Samaritan Nursing Care Center, Johnstown.

She was born in Bombay, India, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Pereira of Goa, India.

Surviving are four siblings: Simon, Felix, Luiza and Amancia, all of India; nieces and nephews; and two cousins: Marshall Pinto and wife, Sandra, in Canada and their children, Tania and Shanahan, and Francis DeMello and wife, Pauline, in New Jersey and their children, Peonia and Gregory.

Sister Melany Pereira entered the Sisters of St. Ann's Order in 1964 in India. In 1976, Mother General asked her to come to the United States to work for missions. She taught school at St. Aloysius and All Saints Catholic Schools in Cresson until this year. She loved her children and enjoyed teaching and touched many lives in her own ways. She traveled widely through the U.S. in missions activities.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Mount St. Ann's Convent, 1120 N. Center St., Ebensburg. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus as celebrant. Committal will be in Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Sisters of St. Ann, American Cancer Society or All Saints Catholic School in Cresson in Sister Melany's memory.

Arrangements are by Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg.
