The American Red Cross will host a grand opening celebration from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at the new location of the Southern Alleghenies office at 415 Orchard Ave., Suite 1, Altoona.
In addition to showing off its new location and celebrating its accomplishments in the community, which date to 1910, the organization will also be commemorating March is Red Cross Month.
The open house will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the new Altoona office. Following the ribbon cutting, Red Cross personnel will introduce Red Cross staff and volunteers, honor top donors and highlight the contributions of Sheetz Inc., since Hurricane Katrina, through the earthquake in Haiti, and most recently through the Red Cross's relief effort following Hurricane Sandy this past fall. Acting as master of ceremonies for Thursday's event will be Timothy Sissler, Reliance Bank, sponsor of the event.
In addition, tours of the new office will be given, and volunteers and staff will be on hand to discuss the impact the organization makes in the Southern Alleghenies in the areas of disaster response, service to the Armed Forces, disaster readiness, emergency preparedness and other service areas.
Light refreshments will be provided.
